As promised, it's prototype time! And it’s clearly the most exciting part of the process. Why? Because when the package arrives, there’s a total frenzy: the product team rushes towards the delivery person as if they were carrying a suitcase full of gold bars. Everyone wants to be the first to see what they've imagined come to life! And once in their hands, the prototype is examined from every angle, as if it were a true treasure... Careful, hands off, it's sacred!
Alright, let’s end the terrible suspense from the previous episode: version 1a has been chosen!
3 questions for... Chiara, leather goods product designer
1. What are the main features of the final prototype?
We nailed it on the first sample, which, between us, doesn’t happen often! After that, we just fine-tuned the details, like the logo, internal organization, and the interchangeable pouch. For this pouch, we were torn between two models, so we decided to consult our favorite jury: the CABAIA factory, aka our beta testers. We sent them both versions and asked for their feedback. The result? We chose the best one, and we’ll keep the rest as a surprise for you!
2. What quality tests did you carry out?
For this bag, we stayed loyal to our trusted main manufacturer, who already handles our fanny packs, Nano bags, and backpacks. As for quality tests, we don’t go easy. Imagine a suitcase being dragged across cobblestones... Well, we do the same with our bags! Okay, maybe not dragging them on the ground, but we do put them through the wringer, shaking them up, making sure they can survive an apocalypse—or at least a day in our lives!
3. What materials did you choose and why?
We went for something new with the material: recycled nylon. Why? Because we wanted a slightly more chic look. This nylon is both durable and shiny, with a finer weave. It’s a material that has proven itself in leather goods, like at Longchamp, for example. And because we like to keep things interesting, we’re also offering this bag in a variety of materials: corduroy, iridescent faux leather, nubuck faux leather... We’ll let you discover the rest!
The best testers are you! The proof? You spotted every little detail to help improve our bag!
Thanks to your feedback, here are the improvements we made to the prototypes:
- - The interior lining color was initially too dark, making it difficult to find things, so we lightened it up.
- - You suggested adding a pen holder and hooks for the outer pouch. You also asked for more space to store cards, as well as systems for attaching an umbrella or glasses case. We listened to you!
- - You felt the magnetic closure lacked security, and the carabiner strap was too long. We fixed that!
- You also wanted bag feet underneath, larger handles, and a stylish shoulder strap.
And here’s what you loved, which we’ve kept just as it is:
- - The size of the bag and the interior compartments were deemed perfect.
- - You loved the small front pocket (we love it too).
- - You found the wide-opening feature very practical for quickly finding what you’re looking for.
- - You approved the bag’s size and storage options.
Ohh, it's already the end of episode 3... 🥲 But don't worry, we'll be back soon with more, we promise!
